At one time almost completely lost, I love early music (before 1700, more or less), played on authentic instruments. I first became interested in this sort of music when I lived in Switzerland
, and heard many fine concerts by the Basel Schola Cantorum.
I also appreciate more recent classical music (1700s to contemporary). It's been a great pleasure lately to share the wonderful world of music with my family. Once in a while we actually get together for a bit of chamber music.
I worked as a church musician for many years, conducting choirs and playing the
organ.
I think it gave me a sense of power to be able to make music that people could actually feel (not so different from rock music, I suppose).
The most creative music is rarely the most popular. Popular music, by definition, is widely known, but it doesn't usually have a lot of "staying power." Over time, the most creative or most universal music becomes "classic" while a lot of stuff that was wildly popular at one time, is forgotten.
